Meet our Ambassador; Rachael Leahcar
Retina Australia is proud to have Rachael Leahcar as our ambassador.
You may recognise Rachael from her performances on the first season of The Voice in 2012. Racheal nailed her performance of Edith Piaf’s classic French song “La Vie en rose” in the blind auditions and had every coach turn around for her. She chose Delta Goodrem and with her guidance made it through to the Grand final of the competition, coming in third place.
Rachael scored a cash prize as well as record deal with Universal Studios Australia. Her debut album Shooting Star, which contained songs she performed on The Voice, as well as newly recorded covers, was released on 13 July 2012 and debuted at number five on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Since then she has released three Top 10 Aria Albums and her new Christmas album, ‘Together for Christmas’ was released 25 October 2019.
Racheal Leahcar is also legally blind. At 6 months old she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa and throughout her early childhood and teenage years her vision deteriorated dramatically. She first began using a white cane in year 10, a time when no one wants to be different! Through this experience Rachael developed the sense of humour and resilience that has likely been a factor in her career success today.
